Cousin Chuck Comes a Callin'

One of the really great things about living in Thailand, or anywhere overseas for that matter, is the realization of just how small the world really is. Here's a great example.

Over Labor Day my mom went to a family reunion in Pennsylvania. While there she got to talking to her cousin, Chuck, whom she had not seen in years. When giving the report on her children, she mentioned that I am currently living in Thailand. Well, it turns out that Chuck regularly travels to Asia for work, and was planning on being in Thailand at the end of the month. "Oh, you have to email Elizabeth," mom says. So, a few days later I get an email from Chuck saying that he was going to be in town.

We had lunch earlier this week, then met again for a drink before his flight left last night. Chuck remembers meeting me when I was a small child, but I don't remember meeting him- I was too young. But it was wonderful to spend some time with him and hear some of the good stories from that side of the family- all while sitting in a 5 star hotel lobby bar in the center of Bangkok! What a small world, indeed.

As usual, the invitiation for you to come visit is always open!
