Acclimate Magazine Launch

I'm back from my trip to the states, finally over the jet lag, and back to work. But, all work and no play makes Liz a dull girl, so I have made sure to fill my calendar with plenty of fun as well, like my lunch today...
Ever since Junior High, Tracey Starr has wanted to publish a magazine. Today, her dream came true. Tracey is the Editor-in-Chief of Acclimate, a new magazine geared specifically for western expat women living in Bangkok.
Volume 1 is hot off the presses, and Tracey had a launch party of sorts to thank all the women (and there are a LOT of them) who were involved in getting the first issue to print.
This is one of the great things about living in Bangkok (or anywhere) as a "trailing spouse-" you literally have the chance to start over. Many spouses leave jobs and careers behind when they decide to support their partner in his/her decision to work overseas, and it can be a bit frustrating. However, it's also the chance of a lifetime- to go back to school, to write that novel that's been in the back of your mind, to start painting, sewing, running, crafting- whatever it is that you keep meaning to do but never can because of time, money and, well..... LIFE.
There are three "Inspiring Women" featured in this issue, and I'm one of them. I tell my story of coming to Bangkok, getting divorced and choosing to make a life for myself here on my own. Another woman, Anita, relates how she's had twenty three expat relcoations in less than twenty years (yes, you read that right- 23!). Kate recounts her experience of living in Jakarta when President Suharto was ousted and how her family feared for their lives during the unrest. Inspiring, I'd say!
The only negative I can think of about the magazine is that we have to wait until December until the next issue is published!
