Independence Day

I know it's been frightfully long since I've posted anything, and I apologize. May and June are simply the busiest months of the year for me work wise, and everything else just sort of slipped. If it's any consolation, I haven't really been up to much of anything that's blog-worthy. Until last weekend, that is...

As you all know, last week we celebrated Independence Day. For years now there has been a huge picnic for the American community in Bangkok (I wrote about it last year as well). It's now being oranized by AMCHAM, which means my involvement in it keeps getting bigger and bigger.

This year's picnic was on Saturday, July 5th at a local football (soccer for you Americans) field. We estimate that about 2,500 people attended. The picnic was a great success! We had games for the kids, live music, field games (when was the last time you participated in a three-legged race or egg toss?), great food, live music and a HUGE fireworkds display at nightfall. It was everything a Fourth of July Picnic should be.

This year, I sat in the Dunking booth for about a half an hour. While my butt was sore from the hard landings at the bottom of the tank, it was nice to cool off after a long, hot morning spent setting up for the event. I also had the priviledge of singing the National Anthem again, along with the Ambassador and the Marine Color Guard. This was the fourth time I've sung it an an event in Bangkok, so I guess I'm one step closer to my goal of singing the National Anthem at a major sporting event. Of course, that would necessitate moving back to the states, so it might be a while!

I have several "blog worthy" activities coming up in the next few weeks, so I promise you'll have plenty of updates from my life. Until then...
